No Rumour Health in Madrid

Partners of the No Rumour Health project met in Madrid in December to finalize the preparation work and to have the application and training modules ready. The meeting was attended by representatives of the University of Valencia, the Instituto #SaludsinBulos (host of the meeting), DanmarComputers, FyG and Evropei Ixnilates.

During the pandemic, health hoaxes have multiplied and the elderly have been among the main victims. Many of them, in fact, have acted as unwitting spreaders of fake news. For this reason, the No Rumour Health partners have decided to expand the content of the app to explain the new Covid19 hoaxes. At the beginning of the project, the Covid19 hoaxes were linked to the origin of the pandemic and the supposed miracle treatments to combat the virus, while during 2021, fake news about vaccines have multiplied.

Presentation of the app in institutions

At the meeting it was agreed that the end-of-project events will be especially focused on meetings with representatives of institutions and senior citizens' organisations. These will take place during the month of January and will allow the project partners to present the application, the modules and the digital book and, thus, to promote its use among older people.

It was also decided to include the interviews with experts that have been done in the ebook on health misinformation. These interviews provide an analysis of the phenomenon of health hoaxes and their impact on older people in each of the participating countries.

POLAND HOSTS FIRST FACE-TO-FACE MEETING ON PANDEMICS

No Rumour Health project partners met for the first face-to-face meeting since the start of the pandemic in September in Poland. This meeting, the third scheduled within the project, was fruitful and allowed to advance in the development of the app. In addition, it was an opportunity to do the final revision of the emodules platform that are available at https://norumourhealth.erasmus.site/es/platform/

The event was attended in person at the headquarters of the company DanmarComputers, the technology partner, in the Polish city of Rzeszów; a representative of the University of Valencia, coordinator of the project; and the Institute #HealthwithoutBullshit. The other two partners, the consultancy firm FyG and the company Evropei Ixnilates, connected online.

Despite the difficulties imposed by thepandemic, the partners have been able to organize webinars and face-to-face workshops to test the application among older people. This has been an opportunity to verify the importance of helping them to distinguish verified health information from that which is not.

FACE-TO-FACE WORKSHOPS

During the month of October, the Universitat de València in collaboration with FyG Consultores, organised several face-to-face workshops in which seniors could test the application live and make recommendations on how to improve it to make it useful for the target age group. In these sessions, a great deal of feedback was obtained, which has been of great benefit to the project. Similarly, during the month of November, the Danmar and Evropeii Inhilatesorganised workshops in Poland and in Greece.
