a mobile application to help older people to differentiate whether the news they receive is true or false (1)

Participate in our survey to create the best possible APP

During the COVID-19 pandemic we have been exposed to an avalanche of information, not always true, which has caused many people to feel incapable of differentiating between verified and evidence-based information and erroneous, misleading or doubtful information.

Even though fact-checkers invest  time and effort verifying information, sometimes for elderly people it is difficult to understand if the information is accurate or not. That is, in fact, the goal of NoRumourHealth: find a way in which people over 65 can quickly understand whether it is true or not the information they receive on their mobile applications.

The goal of NoRumourHealth: find a way in which people over 65 can quickly understand whether it is true or not the information they receive on their mobile applications.

A user-friendly APP

The main goal, therefore, is develop an app that is intuitive and user-friendly for people over 65 years old. This target sometimes has only , it is essential to take into account the ideas, impressions and opinions of the people who will eventually use it.

Thus, we launched a survey so that users can know the first sketches of the prototype and give us their opinion.

Through this survey that can be carried out from any mobile device, tablet or computer, people who are willing to collaborate can answer some simple questions and, by offering their point of view, contribute to making NoRumourHealth a useful application in the fight against disinformation

Although this application can be used by anyone, its design is aimed at facilitating its use by people over 65, a sector of the population that has shown a greater tendency to share news from unreliable information sources.

From now on, we launch a survey which will help the team to listen to what users need: what kind of information they are more doubtful, how should the APP be like to guarantee its use, etc.

The survey will help us to understand which would be the optimal features and characteristics of the APP to guarantee that it is easy to use for people over 65

Who can participate in the co-development process?

Any institution or association specialized in health care for people over 65 years of age, any group of people over 65 years of age, or any other entity that is interested in collaborating with the project can contact us at scienceflows@uv.es.

Furthermore, if you are interested in collaborating at the individual level, you can directly access the survey and / or subscribe to our newsletter to receive the latest project news by email.

Missinformation

Misleading information has spread internationally as fast as the virus, and even in some cases has had direct consequences on people’s health. The current situation has evidenced an already known fact, exposure to false information can lead to decisions that negatively affect health.

Therefore, equipping the population with adequate resources to be able to differentiate news from hoaxes has become an urgent need.

In order to help alleviate this need, last December we started working on the development of an intuitive and easy-to-use application to provide citizens with adequate strategies to identify false information.
